The Los Angeles Lakers selected Bronny James in the second round of this year’s NBA Draft.
The USC product didn’t show much in his lone season of college play, which resulted in mixed reviews following Los Angeles’ selection of the young guard.
However, a former NBA player believes that James has the skill set to play in this league.
"People don't give Lonzo Ball enough credit," Iman Shumpert told Responsible Gambler's DJ Siddiqi on Friday. “Even though he's had his ups and downs, he plays a team game. He's able to get other players involved. He's able to make people better and I think Bronny does an excellent job of that.”
“He does an excellent job of being able to stay in a rhythm without getting people out of rhythm. He doesn't take a lot of dribbles. They need a lot of touches in order to get going. And he doesn't. He plays a pretty efficient game and the more he gets in those decision-making positions that he has to make down the stretch when it means something; we're going to see a really quick learning curve."
James has suited up for two preseason games with the Lakers following the team’s Friday night’s loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sunday night’s close upset against the Phoenix Suns.
In the combined games, LeBron James’ oldest son has totaled two points on a combined one-for-seven shooting and five turnovers. Aside from the lackluster stats on offense, the two-way project has racked up three blocks on the defensive side of the court.
Despite the slow start, it’s clear that NBA minds around the league believe that the second-round pick has the talent to develop into a key player for LA moving forward.
